Chair Benedikt Stuchtey

The Chair of Modern History conducts research and teaching on a wide range of topics from the middle of the 18th to the 21st Century. The history of western Europe and comparative empire studies are the two main focal points. At the chair, perspectives from global, (transfer)transnational, and entangled (Verflechtung) history are used to explore transcultural processes in diverse historical contexts. To this end, a variety of research subjects, actors and networks are considered in both their local and global connections. The British and other European Colonial Empires make up a central component of the research done, with projects covering different thematic and methodological approaches, including the history of identities, migration, objects, security and knowledge.
