Division of Social and Cultural Anthropology
The Department has particular foci in conflict anthropology, environmental anthropology and/or the anthropology of nature, visual and material anthropology, as well as Amerindian and Afro-American studies. The regional focus is on Latin America, the Caribbean, and North America, as well as southeastern Africa (Mozambique and Tanzania). In German-speaking anthropology, the Department is particularly recognized for its work on Lowland South America and the Amazon Basin. Another aspect that sets Marburg apart is the Ethnographic Collection associated with the Department.
