Windows (automatic)
Entry requirements
- You have the login credentials for your university account (Staff or Students).
- Operating system: Windows should be up to date, i.e. all updates should be installed.
- Drivers: You should ensure that the latest drivers for the WiFi adapter are installed.
- IP and DNS settings: You do not need to change the IP (Internet Protocol) and DNS (Domain Name System) settings for your WiFi connection, the default settings for all modern operating systems (automatic IP via DHCP, automatic DNS server) are suitable.
- Root certificate: The T-Telesec Global Root Class 2 certificate must be available and installed.
Windows should already have the certificate pre-installed (see root certificate).
1. Establish an Internet connection by other means (hotspot or guest WiFi at one of the HRZ contact points).
2. Start a browser of your choice (e.g. Chrome, Firefox) and go to https://cat.eduroam.org/?idp=5092. The Philipps-Universität Marburg should already be set as your home institution. Then select the correct user group (Students or Staff) and download the configuration profile.
3. Run the file and follow the instructions of the installer.
4. Enter the username and password:
- Students: username@students.uni-marburg.de
- Staff: username@staff.uni-marburg.de
Please note: The eduroam username is not an e-mail address, despite the similarity. Aliases such as firstname.lastname@staff.uni-marburg.de do not work!
5. Now check whether eduroam is displayed under Settings → Network & internet → WiFi → Manage known networks.
6. Restart the device and test whether the connection to the WiFi is established.
If the connection does not work, please contact the helpdesk team:
e-mail: helpdesk@hrz.uni-marburg.de

Please include your username (uid) and the WiFi-MAC-address of the device with your inquiry.

Select Start → Control Panel → Network and Sharing Center → Change adapter settings → Right-click on Wireless network (also: WiFi connection) → Properties → Double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4 and activate Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically.
- If the DHCP settings are correct but the UMRnet IP address is still not obtained, the following causes may be possible:
- The DHCP client service is deactivated or not started.
- If DHCP communication is taking place but is not fully completed, driver and hardware problems with the WiFi adapter may be the cause. This may be remedied by updating the WiFI driver.
