Working Group Contemporary Turkish Studies

Who we are

We are students, doctoral candidates and postdocs of Philipps University of Marburg with an academic interest in current socio-political developments in Turkey; we are an interdisciplinary working group composed of individuals from different fields of study and have existed — with interruptions — since autumn 2014.

What we want

We want to jointly examine and critically discuss current events and developments in Turkey.
We want to highlight different perspectives and give space to controversial opinions.
We want to connect interested students and researchers at Philipps University and create a platform for exchange.
We want to contribute to the visibility of contemporary Turkey studies.
We want to provide a “protected” space for the discussion of theses, research papers, and projects.

What we do

We discuss and provide information on current developments.
We organize teach-ins, panel discussions, and exhibitions.
We jointly attend external events.
We point out current study programs and research projects at Philipps University of Marburg.

Next meeting
We will meet on Monday, 19 January 2026, at 6:15 p.m. in room 00A03 at CNMS and warmly invite all interested individuals who would like to participate!
