Language: English

Dates: see MARVIN

  • Learning objectives

The course "Organizational Economics" explores the architecture of organizations and the drivers of organizational success and failure. Students learn to apply methods and insights from Organizational Economics to identify problems in the organizational architecture of an organization, and to offer advice for organizational change. They learn to evaluate the architecture of an organization with respect to its exposure to potential organizational failures.

  • Method

This course consists of an online component accompanied by physical meetings, Marvin: LV-02-698-077 and several sessions MARVIN in which we take a collaborative explorative learning approach.

For performance evaluation, students have to give presentations on assigned topics.

  • Literature

The lecture follows the text book by Brickley, Smith & Zimmerman: Managerial Economics and Organizational Architecture (Chapter 11 onwards).

As a starting point for your collaborative explorative learning, read Rayo & Garicano (2016): Why organizations fail: Models and cases, Journal of Economic Literature 54 (1):137-19
