Research
The institute of Comparative Cultural studies combines the subjects of Study of Religion and Cultural- and Social Anthropology in an interdisciplinary manner, thereby going beyond the disciplinary boundaries of academia. The institute has a research profile centred on the comparative study of cultures and religions. Both disciplines are characterised by an interdisciplinary and social science orientation, have a strong international focus and emphasise contemporary, empirical research.
The regional focus is on Asia, Latin America and Europe, and on systematic comparative cultural and religious studies that explore processes of transformation, including from a historical perspective. In addition to empirical field research, the visual and material representation of culture and religion is at the heart of teaching and research, and also incorporates the museaum of religion and the ethnographic collection.
A more detailed description of the individual research priorities and activities, classified by subject, can be found on the pages for Cultural and Social Anthropology and the study of religion.
