Let's have a look at simple organic molecules such as anthracene. Substitution of two CH-groups in these molecules for an valence-isoelectronic unit, which bears a heavy p-block element, yields compounds with unusual properties and reactivities, for instance highly reactive biradical(oid)s. Dennis' investigations towards the generation of di-bisma-anthracene C6H4Bi2C6H4 (the so-called bismanthrene) show i) an unusual coordination chemistry of the unprecedented precursor molecules, ii) a rapid dimerization of the parent compound, and iii) the stabilization of bismanthrene in the coordination sphere of transition metals, including a bismanthrene transfer reaction.

These findings have just been accepted for publication in Chem. Eur. J. - congratulations!
