Does the choice of solvent have an impact on reactivity? Reactions of substrates with activated double bonds and cationic bismuth amides have been investigated. Depending on the choice of solvent, either the expected insertion reactions or an insertion followed by an unusural aryl migration were observed. This can also be exploited in order to control the reactivity towards the base chemical acrylonitrile. The pronounced solvent effects observed in these reactivity studies have been related to the degree of aggregation of the cationic bismuth species. This contribution has just been accepted for publication in Organometallics - congratulations to all co-authors!
