Environmental Informatics

Our vision - why do we do our work?
We explore the spatial acquisition of information about social-ecological systems, develop and promote talents and contribute to the understanding and solution of climate-ecological problems.

Our mission - what do we do in our work?
We combine digital in-situ data acquisition with remote sensing and AI methods, thus contributing to coherent and effective environmental monitoring and closing knowledge gaps about social-ecological environmental systems. We support students through motivated teaching in digital-supported learning spaces and develop talents who will take on social responsibility in the future. We promote knowledge transfer through open source and open data and work together with others on technical and methodological solutions. We are committed to ensuring that the Department of Geography continues to occupy top positions in terms of third-party funding and publications, and we continue to develop attractive courses of study.

Our understanding - how do we do our work?
We deal with ourselves, our academic partners and our students in an open and trusting manner. We make use of our academic freedom and creatively develop our research and teaching on the basis of this foundation. We are committed and help each other to find and implement scientific solutions. We are a team and understand and use our individual skills and experience as an opportunity to achieve our common and individual goals together.
