HeFDI Data Talk "Long-term archiving of digital-born video data: challenges and scopes" (DE)

HeFDI Data Talk on 20 October 2023, 11h-12h

The online event is free of charge; click here to register. With the registration you will receive the access data, which are valid for all talks of our bi-weekly series. The talk will be held in German.

The presentation will use the example of private cell phone recordings to demonstrate the problematic situations and potential solutions in the long-term archiving of digital-born video files. Nowadays, every smartphone can record high-resolution videos. However, video recordings in research remain limited to specific fields: they are mainly used in film and media studies, but also ethnology, psychology, sociology, performing arts and history increasingly use videos to document research objects or testimonies. But even if videos are still less common as research data, they offer a real-life case that can be used to illustrate the decisions and scopes of long-term archiving for other types of data as well.

Speaker: Dr. Elena Hamidy, Justus Liebig University Gießen

Chair: Maria Kiefer, HeFDI Coordination Office
