Electronic laboratory notebooks - an introduction using the example of eLabFTW

HeFDI Data Talk on 3 June 2022, 11-12h

Dr. Björn Trebels, Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen

Lab books are part of everyday research: this is where measurement results, sketches of experimental set-ups, observations or evaluations end up. But what happens when these data are increasingly digital? Should they be printed out and pasted in - or is there a better solution? This is where electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs) come in. Using the example of elabFTW (https://www.elabftw.net), we will look at how ELNs can replace the classic paper lab book and what other possibilities they offer.

Dr. Björn Trebels is a research data management officer at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen and part of the Hessian Research Data Infrastructures (HeFDI) state initiative. He originally comes from biological research and has extensive hands-on experience with (electronic) lab books.
