17.06.2025 Of DNA making and RNA breaking in bacterial immunity
Prof. Patrick Pausch came all the way from Lithuania back to his alma mater to deliver a talk in our Speaker Series.

On 16 June – a Monday, for once deviating from our usual Tuesday time slot – we welcomed Patrick Pausch to RTG 2937, who is Professor at the Life Sciences Centre – European Molecular Biology Laboratory, Vilnius University. The research of his and his team focuses on the discovery of new, and enhancement of existing nucleic acid modifying tools such as CRISPR. They utilise a range of microbiological techniques, biochemical approaches and structural biology to identify, characterise and develop new enzymes for biotechnology, agriculture and medicine. Read more about Pausch Lab here.
During his time at Marburg University, Patrick studied with MiNu's PI Lennart Randau (Project 7) and obtained his PhD with PI Gert Bange (Project 1). For this reason, we were particularly happy that Patrick was immediately delighted when we asked him if, in addition to his individual meetings with researchers during his visit, he would be willing to meet with the MiNu PhDs – few of our guests have so much common ground with them as regards questions revolving around doing a doctorate in microbiology in Marburg and continuing one's career from there.
Thank you for the impulses you gave us, Patrick! We were very happy to welcome you back, even if only for a short period of time.
