Concept of the Integrated Research Training Group (IRTG)

The Integrated Research Training Group (IRTG) offers a well-structured, comprehensive scientific programme to empower PhD students and young clinicians/medical scientists, but also MD students and early-career individuals with a PhD for their future roles as independent researchers and project leaders. One of the main goals of the programme is to foster the translation of new findings on epithelial dysfunction at the molecular level into clinical practice and new therapeutic applications.

  • The IRTG supports the interaction of basic scientists and early-career clinicians across the entire spectrum of desmosomal research and serves as a central link for the participating centres and working groups of TRR 425 both by direct (face-to-face) meetings and online seminars and classes.
  • Scientific networking and personal exchange will be promoted by interdisciplinary lab rotations bringing together basic researchers and clinical practitioners, thus facilitating fruitful translational research collaborations.
  • Interdisciplinary cooperation and knowledge-sharing across participating institutions is further endorsed by a unified digital communication platform.
  • IRTG students will take benefit of a particular multi-dimensional mentoring programme. They will be advised by a personally chosen mentor but also engage themselfes in interactive mentoring elements.
