The application period for the 2012 intake into the ECAR programme has started.
For more information on the study programme please refer to our Module Description.
The application period is extended from 31 March 2012 until 9 April 2012.
Arab countries are in different phases
of economic development. However, many of them are struggling with
organizing their economies during the process of transition. While
elements of a market economy are sometimes implemented, this is often
done on an ad hoc basis. Quite often, problems of economic development
can be traced to two sources: poorly structured institutions and
inadequate academic education of the local workforce.
ECAR aims at training economists who will be able to analyse current
economic conditions in the Arab Region and to employ their education to
contribute to potential solution concepts. Particularly in view of the
recent political changes a considerable demand for such experts has
been newly created on the labour market.
The intakes 2009 and 2010 are carried out in cooperation with Damascus
University. The intake 2011 is carried out by Philipps-Universität
Marburg with parts of the curriculum taking place in countries of the
Arab region.
