Observatory

With the florishing observational astronomy at the end of the 18th century many new observatories were founded at the universities. After a first starting period using mobile equipment in 1841 Christian Ludwig Gerling at Marburg University put into operation his new observatory, built on top of a tower of Marburg’s old city wall.

The Gerling Observatory nowadays is a museum. The Marburg astronomy group is using an extemporaneous setup for observations at the Physics department and has excess to local observatories nearby. A new University observatory is in process of planing.
