Medieval German Philology

Marburg’s German medieval studies have a high international reputation. The Zeitschrift für deutsches Altertum und deutsche Literatur, one of the leading medieval journals, established in 1841, is edited at the department. Moreover, a major digital archive on German literature in the Middle Ages and humanism is being set up here. This is unique in the Federal Republic of Germany.

It is also characteristic for the institute that it cooperates with all medieval disciplines from the university’s other faculties and from the institutions based in Marburg such as the Hessian State Archives and the Archives School.
