Speech Science

A successor to the university’s “Workshop for Speech, Elocution, Theater Arts,” founded in 1920, the Speech Science research group takes a comprehensive view of the phenomena of orality and vocality. One area of focus is instruction in rhetoric, aesthetics, and the spoken arts. On-going dissertation projects focus on the valuation of communication training, concepts of body in voice training, the professionalization of instruction based on speech science, and the relationship of validity and fairness in argumentation.
