Literature as a Cultural Practice

Within the framework of our research group we are seeking to focus on literature as a cultural practice. Taking our cue from the rather heterogeneous theoretical undertakings subsumed under the label “practice theory” (drawing foremost on the work of Bourdieu and Foucault), we understand literature as a highly organised, routinized type of human behaviour characterised by a relatively independent system of rules, codes and symbols, albeit one that demonstrates a high degree of self-reflexivity.
