Summary and research interests

I completed my bachelor’s degree in psychology at Middle East Technical University (METU) in Türkiye, followed by a master’s degree in Cognitive Science at the University of Kaiserslautern. Since October 2025, I have been a doctoral researcher in the Research Unit 5757 “Weak Elements in Phonology: Development, Processing, and Modality”.

My research focuses on how cognitive abilities, prior knowledge, and native-language background shape language comprehension. In my doctoral project, I investigate how speakers with different linguistic experiences such as German, Turkish, or heritage German-Turkish speakers transfer prosodic patterns during second and third language learning.

In my master’s thesis, I conducted an EEG study investigating the effects of cognitive load on predictive language processing. In my previous work, I have gained experience with both eye-tracking and EEG methods, and I am further interested in advanced statistical modelling approaches for language-processing data.

I am also co-author of the following publication:

Büyükyıldırım, N., Özceçelik, Ö., Uygun, S., & Özsoy, O. (2025). Individual differences in verb aspect processing in monolinguals and bilingual heritage speakers of Turkish. Journal of Cultural Cognitive Science, 9(2), 291-308.
