Visual Analytics (Lecture & Exercise)

The Visual Analytics lecture introduces the principles and methods for analyzing complex data through interactive visual interfaces. It covers the design of effective visual representations and the interaction techniques that support exploratory data analysis and knowledge discovery.

The course introduces criteria and influencing factors in visualization design, process models, and visual mapping. It then presents techniques for visualizing multivariate, temporal, geospatial, and graph-structured data. A further focus lies on models and concepts of interaction, including data selection, navigation, and interactive lenses. The course concludes with data representation and dimension-reduction methods for exploring high-dimensional datasets.

By combining visualization, interaction, and analytical methods, the lecture will teach the foundations needed to design and apply visual-analytics systems for real-world data-analysis tasks.
