01.12.2025 Spin Traps: Coordination and Radical Detection

Foto: C. Lichtenberg

Spin traps are molecular compounds used to transform short-lived radical species into persistent, spectroscopically characterizable derivatives. We show here that spin traps can also form simple Lewis-acid-base-adducts, for instance with cationic bismuth compounds. A method for the quantification of the transfer of fundamental organic radicals from bismuth compounds to a spin trap is presented. These results have just been accepted for publication in Helvetica Chimica Acta - in a special edition in honor of the radical chemist Prof. Dr. Armido Studer. Congratulations to all the researchers who contributed!
