How to catalytically cyclize alkyl species onto alkynes? Just add a pinch of bismuth. Dinuclear manganese-bismuth heterobimetallic complexes were identified in theoretical studies as promising pre-catalysts and tested experimentally. The successful candidate shows high catalytic activity, a good substrate scope and a pronounced funtional group tolerance. Different from literature protocols, it operates in a purely thermochemical regime. These findings have just been accepted for publication in ACS Catalysis - congratulations to all co-authors!
