The M4C Gateway Program offers underrepresented and disadvantaged individuals in the science community access to cutting-edge training before potentially entering a PhD program, equipping them with valuable skills and opportunities, whether they go on to pursue in academia or choose other related career pathways.

More specifically, the program aims to integrate talented researchers into the German academic system and familiarize them with its practices and conventions. Fellows will pursue their own research projects while receiving individualized training and mentoring to develop both scientific and transferable skills. This preparation is designed to position them for subsequent doctoral studies within M4C or in related fields across Germany and Europe.

The M4C Gateway Program focuses among others on (1) scientists from the Global South, (2) visually impaired researchers, and (3) individuals with non-traditional academic trajectories, including those returning to research after career breaks. By offering these researchers the opportunity to (re)enter academia, the program also benefits from their diverse perspectives and experiences, enriching and advancing the cluster’s scientific mission.
