30.04.2026 M4C Welcome Days kick off the Early Career program
With most M4C research projects already underway and the remaining ones starting soon, the M4C Welcome Days brought Early Career Researchers (ECRs) together to connect, explore opportunities, and build the foundations of a vibrant research community.
Over several days, participants discovered the cluster’s scientific vision and the opportunities that will shape their future careers. Research group leaders and technology platform heads introduced their expertise, advanced methods, and interdisciplinary approaches. Informal exchanges also created strong first connections among researchers from diverse backgrounds.
A central focus of the event was the long-term perspective: how M4C will empower its ECRs to become independent thinkers and leaders in their respective fields. Through mentoring, transferable skills training, and insights into academic and non-academic career paths, the cluster is preparing researchers for success far beyond their current projects.
The keynote by Prof. Dr. Ahmed H. Badran, “Exploring RuBisCO Function Using Synthetic Biology,” provided an excellent glimpse into how innovative engineering approaches can be used to better understand the function of enzymes. His talk highlighted the transformative potential of rethinking biological systems and resonated strongly with the research questions of M4C, inspiring Early Career Researchers to pursue bold, cross-cutting approaches in their own projects.
M4C’s research themes are forward-looking and tackle complex challenges through collaboration across disciplines. The Welcome Days highlighted that future impact grows not only from individual excellence, but from shared spirit and teamwork.
As the projects progress, the connections and perspectives gained during these first days will continue to influence both the scientific outcomes and the personal development of the researchers. In this way, the M4C Welcome Days serve not just as an introduction, but as a catalyst for shaping the future of the researchers and the direction of the research itself.
