Studium Generale: "Vernetze Kultur"
In Wintersemester 2023/24, the MCDCI organized the Studium Generale with the topic "Vernetzte Kultur" (or "Linked Culture").

The digital transformation has not only affected technology, but every aspect of society as well. It also determines and changes culture in two ways: new cultural commentary, governing workings and processes emerge in the digital world, such as in social media, while at the the same time, traditional objects of culture are being digitized, made accessible online and are interconnected. The Wintersemester 2023/24 Studium Generale at the Philipps University of Marburg is dedicated to both of these interests of cultural connection and connected culture in many different aspects and also addresses the many questions regarding ethics, law and everyday culture that these networks pose.
How do digital assistents such as Siri and Alexa change the world? What does artificial intelligence have to do with culture? And how does this focus on networking change our view of cultural heritage? These and many other questions will be presented and discussed in the twelve presentations of the Studium Generale this Wintersemester. The presentations were organized by the Marburg Center for Digital Culture and Infrastructure (MCDCI), which researches the digital transformation of society, culture and academia.
(Quote translated from German:) "It was most important to us to highlight the tension between interconnectedness and culture from different and even seemingly contradictory perspectives," says Professor Aline Deicke of the organization team, "from technical requirements and infrastructures for new cultural data research methods to reflecting what connected culture and cultural networks mean for us as a society."
