Marburg University Doctoral Award 

New call for nominations open through 15 January 2026!

Nominations can now be submitted to the dean's offices of all departments and executive boards of the research centers.

Marburg University awards the Doctoral Award every year. It is intended to highlight the outstanding achievements of young researchers as well as the scientific progress achieved with such work. Each year, the Marburg University Doctoral Award recognizes an outstanding dissertation from the various disciplines (sections) of the university:

Section I: Law, Economics and Social Sciences
Section II:  Philosophy, Theology, History, Education, Linguistics and Cultural Studies
Section III:  Mathematics and Natural Sciences (excluding Life Sciences)
Section IV:  Life Sciences and Medicine

Important note:

Every supervisor and every reviewer of a dissertation can submit a nomination proposal to the dean's offices of the respective departments and the executive boards of the research centers.

The complete nomination documents must be submitted to the Office for Early Stage Researchers in digital form (PDF) by March 15, 2026, at the latest.

Selection committee:

The selection committee for the Marburg University Doctoral Award consists of university instructors from the Philipps University of Marburg. It deliberates on the nominations received and makes a recommendation to the Office of the President. The Office of the President makes the final decision on the recipients of the Doctoral Award.
