15.12.2025 Bruno Eckhardt Lecture

The “Bruno Eckhardt Lecture” honors scientists who have made outstanding contributions to synthetic biology together with a strong and sustainable commitment to supporting early-career researchers.

Eligibility and Nominations

Nominations may be submitted by scientists holding a doctoral degree.
Self-nominations are welcome.

Submissions must be provided in English and include:

  • A statement of merit
  • A concise curriculum vitae
  • A list of key publications from the past five years.

Award and Lecture

The awardee will be selected by a committee appointed by the SYNMIKRO Directorate.
The award will be presented during an academic ceremony during the annual SYNMIKRO symposium (May 06th, 2026).
The awardee will deliver the “Bruno Eckhardt Lecture”, presenting both their research and their contributions to supporting the research community in synthetic microbiology.

Who is Bruno Eckhardt?

Bruno Eckhardt (1958-2019) was a professor of physics and the founding director of SYNMIKRO, playing a key role in the development of the center. His research on non-linear dynamics and turbulence processes was honored in 2002 with the Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation - the most prestigious research prize in Germany. He was particularly committed to students and young researchers - a legacy that the new lecture continues.
