22.05.2025 Marburg celebrates the Cluster of Excellence "Microbes for Climate" (M4C)
The collaboration between the University of Marburg and the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology involves several PIs of GRK 2937.

Today, the German Research Foundation DFG announced the decisions in the second round of the competition under the Excellence Strategy. The Excellence Commission selected 70 Clusters of Excellence, 45 of which are renewals of existing projects in receipt of funding and 25 new clusters. We are thrilled that one of the new clusters is Microbes for Climate, in which biologists, chemists, physicists and engineers from the University of Marburg and the Pax Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology come together to study the essential role of microorganisms in climate change and develop an integrated, microbe-centered view on the history, the presence, and potential futures of the carbon cycle.
With Gert Bange, Anke Becker, Peter Graumann, Katharina Höfer, Lennart Randau, Jan Schuller, Martin Thanbichler and Olalla Vázquez, eight of MiNu's eleven PIs are also members of M4C. Anke Becker and Tobias Erb from the MPI are the spokespersons of the new Cluster of Excellence.
Congratulations to all those involved, we are all looking forward to the coming years of research! Click here to read the University of Marburg's detailed press release about this and another success in the Excellence Strategy.
