Chair of Civil Law, Private International Law, Comparative Law and Media Law, Institute of Comparative Private Law

Prof. Gounalakis' team conducts comparative law and international private law research on issues of copyright and media law as well as on the law of e-commerce. Civil law, along with media law and international private law, shapes Prof. Gounalakis' teaching. In addition, the professorship deals with comparative media law issues in seminars.

Above all, current and fundamental copyright and media law topics constitute the core of the chair's research activities. Media law covers a broad cross-sectional area, topics such as press, broadcasting, telemedia and other online media. Media law gains particular relevance through the increasingly important protection of personality rights in the classical media and on the Internet, which have to be balanced with the freedom of expression.
