Philipps-Universität Marburg Biologie (Fb17) Ökologie Tierökologie (AG Mupepele)LEPMON-project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). It combines automated camera traps, artificial intelligence (AI), and citizen science to tackle the challenge of moth monitoring in Germany
Within this framework, my PhD focuses on developing a nationwide citizen science network using simple camera traps to gather high-quality biodiversity data. I explore volunteer motivation and use gamified elements to enhance participants’ engagement and retention, while evaluating data reliability and ensuring its ability to train the AI for long-term moth biodiversity across diverse habitats in Germany.
My previous research explored interactions between different bee species and weeds, and the identification of wild bees and wasps through their nesting behavior and nest structure. My Master’s thesis studied how environmental cues influence foraging decisions in Drosophila suzukii using camera monitoring to analyse the effects of varying ethanol concentrations on patch-choice behavior.
Research interests: Biodiversity monitoring, citizen science, insect ecology, pollination networks, AI-assisted ecological data analysis
