English version below: My opinion: Getting together and celebrating

Norbert Fey, Ausbildungsleiter Chemie: Ich bin gespannt.

My opinion: Getting together and celebrating

It won’t be long now before the university celebrates its big anniversary. Are you looking forward to the 500th-anniversary celebrations? We asked staff members at the Staff Council’s summer party stand.

Jana Pohl, Research and Knowledge Transfer Projects Officer: Yes! I’ve heard there’s a special anniversary corporate design and that there are going to be lots of events and celebrations. I’m looking forward to the various celebrations; to seeing the university come together with its staff, students and the city; to the Transfer Festival; and also to use the anniversary as an opportunity to catch up with one or two fellow students from my time at university.

Lara Orphal, PhD student, Psychology: If I’m still here by then? I haven’t really heard anything about it. It’s interesting to see what others are offering, much like at the summer party. Generally speaking, it’s not that easy to socialise. There are no communal spaces, for example for PhD students. I’d like to see specific events focusing on history as part of the anniversary: how the university has developed, and the role women and minorities have played in it.

Norbert Fey, Head of Training in Chemistry: I’m looking forward to it. I know of a few projects, for example a photography project on workplaces at the university and a theatre project. I think it’s good that the university is trying to celebrate the anniversary in a fitting manner, so I’m really looking forward to it. I’d like to see the university present itself not just as a place of study, but also as a place of work and training. I’d like that to be highlighted. Many people don’t realise that.

Isabel Jakob, researcher, Religious Studies: Sort of. I’m worried there’ll be too much stress and work. The Religious Studies collection is celebrating its 100th anniversary, which coincides with this.
Eva Windhorst, researcher, Psychology: I haven’t really noticed much about it. What I’d like most is better networking amongst ourselves; that’s what I’m hoping for – talks, presentations, like at the university summer party.

Janina Muth, administrative officer in third-party funding management: I think it’s lovely that the anniversary is being celebrated, because it brings people from all over the university together to celebrate, including students. That’s what I’m looking forward to most. I haven’t looked into it all that much yet; I’ll let myself be surprised! I’d like it not to be spread out all over the university, but to have a central venue with food and drink.
