18.06.2026 Mohammad Haroon Asadi successfully defended his PhD dissertation on the "Political Economy of Development and Conflict in Afghanistan"
Today, Mohammad Haroon Asadi (DAAD - German Academic Exchange Service scholarship-holder) successfully defended his PhD dissertation on the "Political Economy of Development and Conflict in Afghanistan" at Marburg University.
The timing could hardly have been better. On the same day, a chapter from his dissertation appeared online in Review of Development Economics: "Men’s Support for Women’s Education in Afghanistan: The Roles of Income and Insecurity" (available as open access: https://doi.org/10.1111/rode.70176).
Together with his earlier publication (https://doi.org/10.1111/rode.70034), these studies provide new evidence on the interactions between conflict, development, well-being, education, and social attitudes in Afghanistan.
Thanks go also to our colleagues Björn Vollan and Andreas Landmann for their contributions to the examination committee.
Congratulations, Mohammad Haroon Asadi, on this well-deserved achievement!
