In the article, Farzanegan argues that the war on Iran should be understood not only through the lenses of security, nuclear policy, and regional conflict, but also in relation to the growing global competition over energy-intensive artificial intelligence infrastructure. As large AI systems require stable, cheap, and abundant electricity, energy resources and energy chokepoints are becoming increasingly important for technological power.

The article highlights the strategic role of the Persian Gulf, the energy advantages of the GCC states, and Iran’s position as a major holder of oil and gas reserves. It also discusses the Strait of Hormuz as a critical energy chokepoint whose disruption may affect global energy prices and, indirectly, the economics of AI infrastructure.
