Turkey Studies in Marburg

Students of the BA Near and Middle Eastern Studies as well as the BA Near and Middle Eastern Studies International have the opportunity to choose the focus Turkey Studies as part of their studies. This focus enables students to acquire comprehensive knowledge about present-day Turkey. In addition to solid language training, students acquire extensive knowledge of the history, politics, society and media of modern Turkey.

The subject-specific modules combine interdisciplinary approaches from media and communication studies, political science, Islamic studies, social and cultural anthropology, as well as British Cultural Studies. Topics such as democratization and authoritarianism are just as central as current questions of religiosity or popular culture.

The BA Near and Middle Eastern Studies International also includes a one-year stay at one of our partner universities in Turkey. The program is complemented by external lectures from colleagues from Turkey as well as the opportunity to actively participate in the Working Group on Turkey Studies.
