Student Advising in Political Science

The student advising is currently provided by Tom Becker (SHK of the Institute of Political Science). He answers all questions related to your studies in the B.A. and M.A. Political Science programs, as well as the teaching degree in Politics and Economics. This service aims to provide you with quick and easy access to advice. Therefore, you can reach the student advising for Political Science via Matrix, the chat program of the University of Marburg.

To do so, you need to start Matrix in your Browser or on your Smartphone.

In the personal chat, you can now ask your questions.

You can, of course, still contact the academic advising for Political Science directly. Via email or during the open office hours, you can ask your questions, for example, about topics like BAföG or more sensitive matters in a personal conversation. More complex questions are also likely to be better answered here than via chat.

Would you like to apply for a political science program in Marburg and have questions about the application process? You’ll find the necessary information here (GER).
Credit Recognition for Students Changing Locations or Majors

Students who have already begun studying political science at another university but wish to transfer to Marburg, or who wish to transfer from another field of study to a political science program at Marburg, must submit a certificate of academic recognition and placement as part of their application for admission to a higher semester. The Interdisciplinary Student Advising Office of FB 03 (GER) is responsible for this.
BAFöG Certificates

For applications for continued financial aid under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAFöG) or other funding agencies, confirmation of “proper progress in studies” is generally required after the 4th academic semester. This requirement is met if, in the BA in Political Science, 90 LP have been earned by the end of the fourth academic semester, and if, in the partial degree program in Political Science and Economics Teacher Education, 36 LP have been earned. To submit your application, please submit Form 5 (pre-filled with your personal information!) and a current transcript showing your academic record as of the end of the fourth semester (available via Marvin) to the Political Science Academic Advising Office.

Examiners for Theses

As a general rule, professors and faculty members with a Ph.D. are authorized to evaluate theses for the B.A., M.A., and state teaching certification exams; other faculty members may also be authorized, subject to certain restrictions. PDF list (PDF) of authorized evaluators.
Exam Office of Department 03

The Examinations Office (GER) is responsible for registration for the B.A. or M.A. thesis, as well as for addressing any issues with course registration or exam registration in Marvin. On the Examinations Office website, you will find all the information you need regarding the formal registration for and administration of exams.
