The aim of the “Digital philological-etymological dictionary of the Old Anatolian minor corpus languages” (eDiAna) is to provide the first complete lexicographical study of the text corpus of the “minor” Old Anatolian languages (i.e. Luwian in cuneiform and hieroglyphic transmission, Lycian A and ), Carian, Lydian, Palaic, Sidetic, and Pisidian) and to make it available in digital databases (with search functions).

This includes the philological documentation of word usage in semantic terms, in relation to grammar (forms and constructions), the documentation of word usage in context, the consideration of the cultural-historical context and the documentation of aspects of relationship of the Old Anatolian minor corpus languages between each other as well as with Hittite and other Indo-European languages. The diachronic linguistic comparison is an important scientific method that is applied in the lexicographical and closely related grammatical research of the minor Anatolian languages, e.g. in the evaluation of discussed approaches to meaning and the assessment of grammatical analyses.

The project “Digital philological-etymological dictionary of the Old Anatolian minor corpus languages” will provide a new foundation for lexicographical research into the Old Anatolian minor corpus languages and further studies on Anatolian linguistics and cultural studies. It should also become an important basic tool for Hittitology, Ancient Near Eastern Studies and Indo-European Studies.

The DFG-funded project was headed by Prof. Olav Hackstein, Prof. Jared Miller and Prof. Elisabeth Rieken in Munich and Marburg (November 2018 –Juni 2022).
