The inclusion of transition metal M in main group halogenido metalates allows for the isolation of new anion motifs and each specific metal has a distinct influence on the electronic properties of the resulting compounds. These types of reactions can also be very challenging, as the competition from simple E/X and M/X compounds needs to be overcome by clever reaction design.
