31.08.2026 Carbonyl cyanide in ChemComm

Another congener of the carbonyl pseudohalides has finally been properly characterized. Despite being used as synthon in (organic) chemistry, the NMR signatures and crystal structure of carbonyl cyanide were not known. While the lack of NMR data is somewhat surprising, the same is not true for the crystal structure. As with many liquids, the crystal needed to be grown in-situ on the diffractometer - always a challenge! We have closed this knowledge-gap and published our findings in Chemical Communications.
