30.09.2026 Single-Source Precursors for Bismuth Sulfide!
The reaktivity of known and new bismuth amides towards CS2 has been investigated. As a result, the selective insertion of CS2 into the Bi–N bonds is observed, granting a modular access to bismuth complexes with thiocarbamato ligands. Thermal treatment of selected compounds shows the quantitative transformation to phase pure bismuth sulfide (Bi2S3) in a narrow temperature window. This establishes these compounds as single-source precursors in this field of research. These findings also promises the application of related bismuth precurors for the preparation of bismuth chalkogenides that find application as thermoelectrics, topological insulators, and photocatalysts. These collaborative research efforts with the Heine group (Oldenburg) and the Volz group (UMR, Department of Physics) have been moulded into a publication that has just been accepted by Inorg. Chem. - congratulations to the team!
