I am interested in the role of biodiversity for ecosystem functionality and thus in patterns, processes and dynamics of species, communities, interactions and ecosystems across natural and human-shaped landscapes. My research focuses on biotic interactions, interaction networks as well as the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functions and services in the face of human activities. In my studies I work with a broad range of taxonomic groups such as mammals, birds or insects using various methods (field observations, experimental setups, molecular methods, land-use scenarios, statistical approaches, meta-analyses) to combine fundamental research questions with applied conservation issues. Thus, a further aim of my research is to use these findings to develop strategies that assure the combination of sustainable use of natural resources and conservation of biodiversity.
