Welcome to the GRK 2573

GSEV EV OMICS Workshop at the ZTI in Marburg

The EV Omics Workshop of the German Society for Extracellular Vesicles e.V. (GSEV) took place from December 6 - 7, 2023 in Marburg.

The organizers Christian Preußer and Elke Pogge von Strandmann (both Philipps University Marburg) and Tobias Tertel (University Hospital Essen-Duisburg), welcomed around 40 participants from all over Germany to lectures, poster sessions and "round table discussions".

Small extracellular vesicles are key players in intercellular communication. Their importance for cellular communication and their role as promising biomarkers is increasingly recognized. The methodology and also the generation of OMICs data are developing rapidly in this young field of research and were the subject of the workshop.

The latest developments and challenges in using new OMICS technologies to characterize EVs were discussed in presentations, including speakers from Philipps University (Prof. Dr. Johannes Graumann, Prof. Dr. Verena Taudte) and recognized experts in various fields such as Tobias Tertel (University Hospital Essen-Duisburg), Prof. Dr. Stefan Holdenrieder (German Heart Center Munich), Dr. Daniel Bachurski (University Hospital Cologne), Dr. Andrey Turchinovich (University of Heidelberg), Prof. Dr. Michael Pfaffl and Dr. Benedikt Kirchner (both TU Munich-Weihenstephan).

A central point of the workshop were the meet-the-experts sessions, where the participants exchanged ideas extensively in a relaxed atmosphere. In addition, all participants presented their current research results in a poster session, which were intensively discussed and honored with poster prizes for the best presentations. The poster session also provided an opportunity for numerous specialist discussions and the establishment of new scientific collaborations.

Overall, the GSEV EV Omics Workshop once again underlined the interest and focus on research into extracellular vesicles at Philipps University, which is home to the first Core Facility for Extracellular Vesicles in Germany (headed by Dr. Christian Preußer), as well as a DFG-funded Research Training Group GRK2573, which is investigating the role of EVs in the pathogenesis of malignant diseases.
