Ideally you should have a background in natural sciences and basic medical knowledge from a biomedical bachelors program. This includes foundational knowledge in molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology as well as an understanding of theoretical medicine, medical questions and medical terminology.
Practical laboratory experience is necessary for this program, as it is a very hands-on and work intensive program.language requirements
International applicants are required to provide proof of German language proficiency at DSH-II level or an equivalent, as the teaching language is German.
Applicants have to proof a B1 English level. Strong English skills will be beneficial, as the majority of scientific literature is published in English. In most research laboratories, you will be part of an international team, where English is commonly used as the working language.interests & character traits
You should show motivation and self-initiative, as much of the laboratory work involves working independently on topics and methods. Curiosity and creativity will help you develop scientific models and solve problems.
High frustration tolerance and resilience are beneficial for reaching your academic goals, as laboratory experiments may not yield immediate results and progress can sometimes be slow.
The ability to work in a team is important when working in a laboratory. Seminars and meetings have to be coordinated and the usage of equipment has to be arranged. The mutual support from colleagues regarding problem solving will be important for the future.
Flexibility regarding your schedule is necessary as work places in laboratories are rare and experiments often take longer than 8 hours. Good time management will help you combine work with your personal life.
