Funding

A doctorate at Philipps-Universität Marburg is generally free of charge; this applies both to an individual and a structured doctorate. Nonetheless, you have to pay the usual semester fee for enrolling as a doctoral candidate.

If you wish to pursue your doctorate in Marburg you will have to cover your own living expenses (accommodation, food, personal expenses, study-related cost etc.). At present, anyone who applies for a student visa in Germany must provide proof of an annual income amounting to at least 8.640 €. Please bear in mind, that this amount will not cover the total amount of expenses. According to a study by the German National Association for Student Affairs, a student in Germany needs approx. 820 € per month for rent, food, clothing, travel expenses, study materials, leisure activities etc..
