Scientists' Day 2026: Time&Timing Scientific Career (Planning)

Since 2020, the annual Scientists’ Day has focused on researchers in the early stages of their careers. Each year, it addresses a topic that is particularly relevant during the qualification phase. The event offers doctoral candidates and postdocs in Marburg, as well as their supervisors, the opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange in a relaxed and informal setting.

This year’s Scientists’ Day will be held on June 16, 2026, with a focus on 'Time and Timing in Scientific Career (Planning)'.

Time shapes scientific careers in many ways. At the event, we explore both the personal dimension of time - such as time management, balancing family and research, and the time investment required in teaching and research - as well as the structural and strategic aspects of career planning.

Especially during the doctoral and postdoc phases, time proves to be both a particularly scarce and formative resource. Fixed-term contracts, qualification requirements, and personal life decisions raise questions that are rarely straightforward to answer - and depend as much on individual experiences as on structural conditions.

The event provides space to discuss the factors of time and timing in career planning: How do we handle time pressure? How can research, teaching, and personal commitments be balanced? Which strategies have proven effective - and where do they reach their limits?

These and other questions we aim to explore at Scientists’ Day
