Weitere Informationen:

I will describe how a climatologist and a shaman translate their concerns about the Amazonian rainforest in order to reach the audiences they respectively represent. It will argue that they mimetically rephrase the relationship between their bodies and the forest according to the conceptual imagination of the Other. I suggest that the shaman’s and the scientist’s connective gestures do not undo their ‘translative equivocations’ (Viveiros de Castro 2004), but they do highlight innovative forms of expressing a common concern about the rainforest. Drawing on their public appearances and published texts, I shall show how the bodies of these two spokespersons become the loci of what I term ‘ecopolitical mimicries’: a translative experiment where modes such as ‘naturalism’ and ‘perspectivism’ disclose not only equivocations, but also embodied forms of co-implication.
