A warm welcome from the Faculty of Protestant Theology

Our English website will give you some basic information about the faculty and study programmes.

The Faculty of Protestant Theology was established by landgrave Philipp the Magnanimous in the year 1527 as a part of the newly-founded university that now bears his name. The faculty is the world's first Protestant Faculty of Theology. Since the 19th century, fields of study have been differentiated that are reflected in our faculty's current chairs

  • Old Testament
  • New Testament
  • Church History
  • Practical Theology
  • Systematic Theology
  • Social Ethics
  • History of Religions
  • History of the Oriental Churches

The Faculty of Protestant Theology focuses on the social and cultural contextualisation of theology and has developed a liberal theological profile since the 1970s. Ecumenical, aesthetic and feminist perspectives contribute to this profile.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Marburg!
