Local populations, agrobiodiversity and traditional knowledge in the Brazilian Amazon
The accelerating genetic and cultural erosion puts at risk the traditional agricultural biodiversity in the Brazilian Amazon and threatens the production and transmission of associated traditional knowledge. Therefore it is necessary to identify the biological and socio-cultural processes that generate the agrobiodiversity in the Brazilian Amazon, and which cannot be separated from production and transmission of knowledge. In so doing, we ask the following questions: What are the processes of construction of biological objects and local knowledge? How to ensure continuity of construction processes of agrobiodiversity and knowledge associated with them? Our ongoing research project on these issues is based on the participation of local populations, and aims at the description of agricultural systems in their sociocultural and biological dimensions, in several Brazilian ecossystems and cultural settings.Prof. Dr. Mauro Barbosa de Almeida, Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Brasilien)
