Herbarium Marburgense
The Herbarium Marburgense (MB) is divided into two branches. In the phanerogamic branch, collections originating from the 19 th century coming from Marburg and Hesse, are exceptional, since numerous specimen of this time kept in other herbaria were destroyed during World War II. A crucial part of this branch is the authentic collection of Albert Wigand, on which his “Flora von Hessen und Nassau” is based. Additionally, MB hosts seed collections and old precious alcohol fixed plant material from the 19 th century collected by Goebel.
The cryptogamic branch of MB contains collections of all groups of lower pants, lichens and fungi. The collection of hypogeous fungi gathered by Rudolph Hesse is unique. These samples were the base for his book “Die Hypogäen Deutschlands” (1894).
Recently, in cooperation with several colleges, we
study fungal specimen from Costa Rica, Macedonia, Turkmenistan and
China.
