Girls' Day at the Department of Physics on April 23, 2026
Physics is so much more than just formulas on a blackboard. It’s about puzzling, building, exploring, and understanding. The Girls’ Day in the Physics Department will show you how exciting everyday life in science really is and how much fun it is to explore things in depth.
What to expect:
Hands-on-technology - Where everything begins
Before you start an Experiment, the technical side of it has to be sorted out! In the morning you get to explore the technical areas at our department. You will get to know the mechanical and the electronical workshops as well as the lecture hall preparation area – the areas in which the special equipment for science and teaching are built. Have you ever soldered yourself or seen how a large milling machinge actually works? With us, you are allowed to work yourself hands-on and will solve small technical problems yourselves.
AMA
In a relaxing break we will breakfast together. This is the perfect opportunity for you to get your questions answered: How is it to study physics? Which job opportunities will I have later? We will tell you of the many perspectives, female physicists have in these days.
Research live - A glimpse into the laborarories
Refreshed we take you into the scientific areas of the department. Experts of the experimental and the theoretical physics workgroups will show you their worlds. You will get an insight behind the curtains, visit real research labs, will get to know what we are currently working on, and you will become a researcher yourself! Build your own spectrometer to scatter light, construct your own solar-lamp, or try your first steps in the world of programming.
Why should you join in? You will experience a varied mix of manual work, technique and brainwork. You will not only observe but experiment yourself. New perspectives will open up! Explore how varied and modern the world of professions related to physics can be for women.
