Anglophone Studies (Bachelor of Arts)

Degree: Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)
Program length: 6 semesters / 3 years (180 ECTS points)

The Anglophone Studies B.A. program is an English-language degree which qualifies students for professional work and for further scientific work. The program is divided into two mandatory areas and one elective area. Mandatory area I comprises an introduction to the subject disciplines, language practice, a practical area, profile modules for acquiring professionally relevant key qualifications, and the bachelor's thesis. Mandatory area II comprises advanced studies in the subject disciplines, in which the four sub-fields of British literature and cultural studies, the early modern period and modern period, North American culture and literary science and linguistics are covered.

Objectives

Alternatively to admission to a Master of Arts program, graduates of the program may enter professional fields in which subject-relevant technological competencies and interconnected thinking and communicative skills are required, in addition to language and cultural knowledge of anglophone societies, with corresponding focus on major topics.

Completion of this B.A. makes students into competitive experts in English-speaking cultures on the international labor market, including due to a half-year or full-year stay abroad. To name a few: the fields of university, publishing, media, web technologies, PR, apprenticeship professions in economics and industry, human resources, marketing, politics, trade and commerce, consulting.

    Other language Skills:
    The program requires very good skills in the English language, which are demonstrated by the final grade certificate. If this certifies the foreign language over at least five years up to the degree which qualifies for university entrance, the final grade or the average grade of the last two years before the higher education entrance qualification must equal at least 10 points ("good")

    Alternatively, language skills can be certified by a certificate from one of the following internationally recognized language examinations, submitted with the application:

    Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – internet based (0-120 Pkt.): 90 Pkt.
    Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – paper based (310-677 Pkt.): 577 Pkt.
    Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – computer based (0-300 Pkt.): 225 Pkt.
    Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) (10-990 Pkt.): 750 Pkt.
    International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 6,5
    English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) - Examination Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): C
